The IEW is proud to congratulate Dr. Rhodri Steffan Lloyd for being the 2017 recipient of the Terry J. Housh Outstanding Young Investigator Award.

This annual award given by the USA-based National Strength and Conditioning Association is recognising the noteworthy contributions that a researcher who has been in the field for seven years or less brought to the field of applied exercise and sport science. Dr. Rhodri S. Lloyd, one of our professional expert witnesses, is the first European and British researcher receiving the Terry J. Housh Outstanding Young Investigator Award. The National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) is a non-profit professional organization founded in 1978 with the common desire to network, collaborate and unify the profession of strength and conditioning. Since its inception, the NSCA has grown to nearly 30,000 members in 72 countries and become the leader in the research and education of strength and conditioning professionals.

Dr. Lloyd is currently a Senior Lecturer in Strength and Conditioning at Cardiff Metropolitan University and leads the Youth Physical Development Centre, which provides after-school strength and conditioning provision to a range of young athletes. He also holds research affiliations with both Auckland University of Technology and Waikato Institute of Technology in New Zealand. His research interests surround the impact of growth and maturation on long-term athletic development and the neuromuscular mechanisms underpinning training adaptations in youth. Dr. Lloyd has published in excess of 60 peer-reviewed publications, authored multiple book chapters and edited a textbook on the topic of youth training. He serves on the editorial boards for both the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research and the Strength and Conditioning Journal, and in 2016 he was lead author for the NSCA’s inaugural position statement on long-term athletic development. He has previously served as a Board Director for the UK Strength and Conditioning Association and is the current Chair of the NSCA Youth Training Special Interest Group.
