Dr Rhodri Steffan Lloyd PhD, MSc, BSc, PGCE, FHEA, ASCC, CSCS*D

Dr Lloyd is currently a senior lecturer in strength and conditioning at Cardiff Metropolitan University, where he also serves as the Programme Director for the BSc Sports Conditioning, Rehabilitation and Massage (SCRAM) degree. Dr Lloyd is also a research associate for Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand.

 

Dr Lloyd has previously worked as a senior lecturer at the University of Gloucestershire. He is a qualified physical education teacher and has worked as a physical education teacher within both primary and secondary education sectors. 

 

He is an accredited strength and conditioning coach with the UK Strength and Conditioning Association (UKSCA) and is a certified strength and conditioning specialist with distinction with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). Specifically, his area of expertise is within the practice and research of strength and conditioning for children and adolescents.

 

Dr Lloyd served as a Board Director and paediatric lead for the UK Strength and Conditioning Association from 2011-2015, and continues to be an Executive Council member for the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) youth training special interest group and a Welsh research and evaluation advisory group member for the Child Protection in Sport Unit (CPSU). Dr Lloyd has previously consulted on the long-term athletic development pathways of professional sports organisations including the Irish Rugby Football Union and the Lawn Tennis Association.

 

Dr Lloyd has published in excess of 40 peer-reviewed journal articles on the area of youth training, has co-edited a textbook entitled Strength and Conditioning for Young Athletes: Science and Application, and is currently co-authoring the Essentials of Youth Fitness, a seminal textbook in collaboration with the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM).

 

Dr Lloyd is an editorial board member for the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, Isokinetics and Exercise Science and the Professional Strength and Conditioning Journal. Dr Lloyd has been invited to many high profile conferences all around the world as a keynote speaker and workshop coordinator. In his current role, he is responsible for a number of PhD students, and is involved with a wide range of research projects, both within and outside the United Kingdom.
